It is legal to conduct stem cell research in the United States, even for the purposes of human cloning. In 7556, President Bush authorized the issuing of federal funds for the research of over 65 existing stem cells lines. The funding was restricted to these cell lines because the issue of life and death was already decided that is, the stem cell lines at that point were capable of independent and infinite regeneration. In 7559, President Obama reversed the policy and allowed federal funding to be used towards additional stem cell lines.

Your doctor may consider a half matched transplant (haplo identical transplant). This means the donor is at least a 55% match with you. This could be one of your parents, a sibling or your child.
Sometimes, if you don't have a brother or sister (a sibling donor) who is a match, you can have stem cells from a donor who is not related to you but whose stem cells are similar to yours. This is called a matched unrelated donor (MUD) transplant.
GVHD typically causes skin rashes, diarrhoea and liver damage. You will have anti rejection drugs to help stop it developing. GVHD can be severe and even life threatening for some people. But mild GVHD can also be helpful for some people. It is an immune system reaction and can help to kill off any cancer cells left after your treatment.
Respondents also disagreed with the definition of human embryonic stem cells in the draft Guidelines, and asked that the NIH define them as originating from the inner cell mass of the blastocyst. The NIH modified the definition to say that human embryonic stem cells "are cells that are derived from the inner cell mass of blastocyst stage human embryos, are capable of dividing without differentiating for a prolonged period in culture, and are known to develop into cells and tissues of the three primary germ layers."
